Obligatory Friday Update

I've been pretty quiet or the last few days. That's pretty much been for the reasons you'd expect: too much work, not enough fascinating stories to tell.

I started out the week all gung ho to find a place to live, but then my boss asked me why I didn't just stay in the apartment for a few months? I don't really see myself staying there that long (living out of my suitcases isn't really facilitating the change in mindset that's required for me to see Santa Barbara as home), but it's nice to know I can take my time with it.

In other news... Okay, there really isn't any other news right now. I had considered going out of town for the long weekend. I looked into taking a train up north to finally take in the Redwood Forests. It turns out, though, that the train that makes the 12 hour journey to that part of California looks a lot more like a bus. Maybe another time.

On Wednesday evening, I braved the local bus and trekked to a coffee shop in the no man's land between Santa Barbara and Goleta (Think Howard Frankland without the water. Actually, that's still too nice. Think Hwy 60 between Brandon and Tampa... without the strip clubs.) to meet with a writing group I found out about the last time I was in town. Seemed like a good idea, you know, meet some people and maybe get some help with my writing. Yeah, only no one showed up. I sent an email out to find out if the meeting had been cancelled. The one reply I received basically said, "Was that tonight?"

I can already tell that's going to be a great group. I'll give them another chance, though. Maybe it was a fluke.

That's all for now. Not to worry, though, I'll be faithfully reporting my weekend activities. If nothing else, I'm sure I'll bust out the new camera and take some pictures of stationary household objects.

You simply haven't lived until you've seen the way the California sun plays against a soda can in the early afternoon.
